Urban Company

Urban Company is India’s biggest aggregator of blue-collar services- from plumbers to electricians, every service can be availed at the click of a button. One of the most popular categories is spa therapy. As the land of Ayurveda, India isn’t new to the idea of touch-based wellness. However, with more and more women entering this lucrative field, massage has become a pseudonym for sex work- both in the public psyche as well as in pop culture and media portrayals. Urban Company employs 60000+ of such women as Spa professionals who are forced to lead double lives to escape these judgements- they own multiple SIM cards, lie to their families about their profession, and only accept bookings 5-10 kms away from their homes.

We wanted India to view our Spa Pros, as just that- Pros who are trained in anatomical science and soft tissue manipulation. Through this film, our protagonist reclaimed the word “happy ending”, rinsed it of its sexually coloured undertones and in doing so, she became a conduit for all working women in India who felt that their own technical expertise as professionals was shadowed by gender biases. The film was shared widely on social media, and lauded by key opinion leaders across India, ranging from actors to influencers to sportspeople.
